Georgia Junior Development Water Ski News

Hello everyone! Water ski time is here, are we are working on some great things for the juniors this year. This email is going out to all junior competition skiers, kids who aspire to be competition skiers, and beginner skiers as well.

I am Elaine Guarino, and along with Vicki Feldman we are your Junior Development Water Ski Coordinators for Georgia. We hope you will join us for the programs we have planned.

First, we have created a Yahoo! groups site for Georgia Junior Development. For those of you who have never been a part of a group like this, it gives everyone an easy way to share information with others with like interests. You don't have to keep up with email addresses, because they are all in the group. You can also check the calendar, get access to files, and easily look at email history. It is also a good way to buy/sell ski items, find ski partners, and arrange carpools for camps/tournaments/clinics. Please visit the site and join as we want as much information as possible to go through this site. A tip- I belong to a lot of groups and have my emails come to me once a day in a journal. The link is: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/gajrwaterskiers/

Let me know if you have any questions about the site.

I want to give you an idea of some the things we have planned for the year. We are in the process of putting together a three event clinic at the Atlanta Water Ski Club on April 26th. This will be for any junior who has some skiing ability and is looking to improve their three event skills. There will be coaches available for slalom, trick, and jumping. I will have a flyer going out soon about this.

Ray Crenshaw is having a clinic/tournament for juniors only on May 17th. This is slalom only and you must be able to run a pass on a slalom ski to enter. Fee is $5.00 and is limited to 20 people.

We are also working on a clinic for our advanced skiers that we hope to do one day during the week after Memorial Day. We are working on the coaches for this.

We plan to have a clinic Thursday, July 10th at Whitestone Lakes. You must be registered to ski in the State Tournament to ski in this tournament. We also hope to do a grass roots clinic after Nationals that would be at Lake Acworth and would expose new skiers to the sport.

We are talking with James Albright (Parks and Recreation) about this, and would like to have our junior skiers help with this one. This would be a great opportunity to show the community what water skiing is all about. We should be able to get press for this one.

All clinics will be very reasonably priced and will include lunch and possibly other things such as t-shirts. If you are not a member of USA Waterski, you will have to purchase insurance to participate. I'm getting more info on that and will include it in the flyers.

I have created a list to track the skiers in Georgia. Not all information is complete. Please help me fill in the blanks. This information will not be shared, and one thing I am asking for is birthdates so I can keep up with what group they would be in. Categories are:

Name:
Address:
Phone:
Email:
Club/Lake:
Birth Date:
Events (Slalom, Trick, Jump):
Interest (competitive, learning, never skied, etc):

Please feel free to share this list with others that would like to participate, and let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Also, please remember to pay your Georgia Federation Dues if applicable. I have attached the payment form. Thanks!
