Southern Region AWSA Athletes Honored at US Nationals

 
Several athletes were honored with prestigious awards at the recently completed 67th GOODE Water Ski National Championships in West Palm Beach, Fla.

John Lex Kenerly earned the Dr. J.D. Morgan after achieving the highest overall score in Boys 3. John Lex will receive $1,000 to be held in escrow until he enter a two- or four-year college.

Anna Gay earned the Jim Grew Scholarship by achieving the highest overall score in Girls 1. Anna will receive $1,000 to be held in escrow by the American Water Ski Educational Foundation until she enters a two- or four-year college.

Several junior athletes received National Most Improved Awards. The awards were given to skiers in Boys 1-3 and Girls 1-3 divisions with the most improved seed values for the Nationals from 2008 to 2009 in slalom, tricks and jumping. The skiers were in their divisions for at least one year and were not included in the top-five Nationals' placements. Award winners were as follows: Girls 1 slalom: Andi Brock of GA,  Boys 2 slalom: Russell Durand of GA, and Girls 3 tricks: Brandi Lund of FL.

The Southern Region won the National All-Star Team Trophy, presented to the Regional All-Star Team with the highest NOPS team score for slalom, tricks and jumping. Each region pre-selects a six-member team with one alternate from the Boys 2-3 and Girls 2-3 divisions.
