Excutive Director Report
March 28, 2008
Back
Dear USA Water Ski board of directors, board members of the sport disciplines, principals of the sport,
and the USA Water Ski staff:
This will be an abbreviated report this week as I am about to head out the door and to travel to
West Palm Beach to visit with Charlotte Melchers, the event producer for this year’s AWSA
Nationals. This week’s report covers recent additions to the USA Water Ski website. Here goes:
Blogs
What is a blog? Google says: “A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a Web site where
entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb,
meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Many blogs provide commentary or news on a
particular subject. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an
important part of many blogs.” We have a new blog on USA Water Ski’s Web site
(www.usawaterski.org; click on “featured blogs”). Scott Atkinson, editor of The Water Skier,
and I write one each week (mine is the weekly report you are already receiving). Within the
blogs, you can comment on recent news or the subject of the week. Thus far, several have made
comments on Scott’s and no one on mine. So, my feelings are hurt. No one must be reading
them. Nonetheless, we would be interested in what you have to say.
Other Web site stuff
Much effort has been devoted to the USA Water Ski Web site (www.usawaterski.org) with the
inclusion of a new members-only section (log in at “member log-in” on the right side upper
corner of the home page) as well as a section for tournament organizers for online tournament
registration (found on the left side column under “event sanctioning and bidding”). The
members-only opportunity continues to evolve with more and more special features planned for
the future.
Additionally, our own USA Water Ski graphic designer Lynn Novakofski has been busy
designing a new section for the National Show Ski Association (NSSA) side of our web-site. It
will be launched soon, and will include photos and other graphic representations of technical
aspects of the show discipline. The intent is to provide help to aspiring and upper level skiers as
well as for judges. This type of application may become a template for the other sport disciplines
in the future if we receive favorable review of the NSSA use.
Good stuff !
Have a great first weekend in April.
